Hello this is Katy Andersen, Principal of Joan MacQueen Middle School. I am calling with a few requests.
First, the local authorities have asked us to ask you to NOT have your children cross Tavern Road. This is extremely dangerous. We have been asked to remind parents that vehicles stopped in the bike paths will be ticketed. Parents are also asked to not park on private property when dropping off, picking up or parking during school events. The front parking loop and the unpainted curb on the east side of Tavern Road are the only safe ways for students to be dropped off and picked up. Congestion in the front loop is over by 2:07 each day. Unless parents have a special placard, they should never be using the staff parking lot. Students in this lot will be given a pink slip and may lose school privileges as a result.
Second, as we plan for next year, it would help us immensely if you would let us know if your current sixth or seventh grade student will not be here next year. In addition to helping us with student placements, this will also help your child's new school since they would then get your child's records quicker as well.
One last thing, parents, please put August 19th on your calendars for Dust Devil day - on this day you will have the opportunity to come to school and fill out all of the first day packet info, buy bus tickets, PE clothes etc and get a copy of your child's full schedule.
